Metanx Description

Metanx is a prescription medication used to fulfill specific nutritional requirements among patients with endothelial dysfunction. This is given to patients with neuropathic pain and loss of protective sensation caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This has the generic name of levomefolate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 and is classified as a food supplement.

Metanx Directions

Always read the medication information leaflet before using this drug. Remember that you must not use any medication without fully understanding all its prescription information. For queries, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this oral prescription drug exactly as your doctor instructs you to. You may take it once a day, twice a day, or two capsules once a day, depending on the recommendation of your physician. You may take it on an empty stomach or with a meal. Drink fluids right after taking the capsule. For missed doses, administer as soon as you can. If the next planned dose is due, skip the missed dose and take the following dose as scheduled. Do not make up for the missed dose and take two doses at once. Further, do not discontinue this drug abruptly as it can worsen your condition.

Metanx Cautions

Avoid taking this food supplement if you have an allergy to l-methyl folate, pyridoxal 5’-phosphate, methylcobalamin, and any inactive ingredients that the capsule contains. Always watch for possible signs of hypersensitivity reactions, such as skin rashes, hives or itchiness, swollen lymph nodes, swelling of the face and neck, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. As soon as you notice allergic reactions, seek emergency medical attention.

Inform the medical practitioner about your past medical history of pernicious anemia or other types of anemia. You must also discuss all the prescription medications, nonprescription medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. These products may interact with Metanx.

Drowsiness is a highly common side effect of this food supplement. Always observe safety caution when doing activities or tasks that would require alertness, most particularly driving. Note that you must also limit your consumption of alcoholic beverages.

This food supplement is not recommended and must not be taken by children. For the elderly, this product is safe to take. Always administer it with caution because geriatric patients are more likely to experience side effects.

Whether you are pregnant or you think you might be pregnant, you must inform your doctor about your condition right away. It is unknown if this type of medication can cause harm to unborn children.

For nursing moms, it has not been established if the active ingredients of this supplement can pass into the breastmilk. Discuss with your doctor all the possible risks before taking this medication.
