What is Azopt eye drop?

Azopt is a brand-name medication that can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription. This medication is used to lower eye pressure in adults with either open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

This medication contains brinzolamide as its active ingredient, which belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Azopt decreases eye pressure by reducing the amount of aqueous humor (a clear liquid) the eye produces.

Carbonic anhydrase is an enzyme that helps the eye produce more aqueous humor. Azopt binds to carbonic anhydrase and prevents it from working.

Azopt eye drops dosage

Azopt eye drops come in a liquid solution form and is only available in one strength which is 1%.

The recommended dose of Azopt is one drop in the affected eye (or eyes) three times daily. This medication can be used with other topical ophthalmic medications to reduce intraocular pressure, but these medications should be used at least 10 minutes apart.
