Sulfacet-R Lotion (Sulfacetamide Sodium/Sulfur 10% - 5%) is a prescription medication used to treat several skin problems like severe acne, bacterial folliculitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. Severe acne occurs when oil and dead skin cells build up deep within hair follicles. Bacterial folliculitis is an infection of the hair follicles. Seborrheic dermatitis is flaky, itchy red skin on the face, scalp, and trunk. Sulfacet-R lotion is a combination medicine. The active ingredients in Sulfacet-R are Sulfacetamide Sodium and Sulfur. Sulfacetamide Sodium belongs to a class of drugs called sulfa antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria on the skin that can lead to acne and worsen other skin conditions. Sulfur belongs to a class of drugs called keratolytics. It works by unclogging pores and killing acne-causing bacteria. It causes the skin to dry and peel to reveal healthier skin.
