Product Details

Votrient is an anti-cancer medicine used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), as well as soft tissue sarcoma (tumors developing around muscles, tendons, joints, organs, or blood vessels). It works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells.

The common side effects of Votrient include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, trouble breathing, tumor pain, bone pain, muscle pain, headache, tiredness, change in hair color, and change in the sense of taste.

The serious side effects may include:

• Change in mental status
• Confusion
• Headache
• Increased blood pressure
• Seizures
• Sign of heart attack
• Signs of infection
• Sign of stomach bleeding
• Sign of stroke
• Slow healing
• Sudden chest pain
• Unusual bleeding or bruising

Votrient can cause sever or life-threatening liver problems. If you’re at risk, be sure to work with your doctor get frequent blood or urine tests. Liver problems can be more prevalent in patients who are over the age of 65.

You should not take Votrient if you are allergic to pazopanib, or if you have severe liver disease. This medication can cause a severe and sometimes fatal allergic reaction.

You should not use this medication if you are pregnant or nursing.

Precautions

Be sure to take Votrient exactly as your doctor prescribes for you. Follow all instructions that come with your medication.

Take this medicine on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before, or 2 hours after a meal. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, as it can cause your body to absorb too much of this medication at one time.

Store at room temperature, away from heat or moisture.

Before you start taking Votrient, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Blood clot or stroke
• Fistula in your stomach or intestines
• Headaches
• Heart disease, heart rhythm disorder, long QT syndrome, high blood pressure
• Liver disease
• Perforation in your stomach or intestines
• Seizures
• Stomach or intestinal bleeding in the past 6 months
• Surgery in the past week
• Thyroid disorder

There may be an interaction between Votrient and other medications. The most notable include antibiotics, antidepressants, cholesterol medications, heart rhythm medications, HIV or AIDS medications, and stomach acid reducers. Talk to your doctor about the risks.

1. What is the typical adult dose for Votrient?
Answer:The usual dose for both renal carcinoma and soft tissue sarcoma is 800mg orally, once a day.

2. What do I do if I miss a dose?
Answer: Take any missed dose as soon as you remember. If the next dose is 12 hours or less away, skip it until the next dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

3. Is there anything I should avoid while on Votrient?
Answer: Avoid grapefruit, grapefruit juice, or grapefruit products while taking Votrient, as it may interact and lead to unwanted side effects. Also be sure to ask a doctor before using an antacid while on this medication.
