Saphris (Asenapine) is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults. Saphris is an antipsychotic medication. This medication works by changing the actions of the chemicals in the brain.

Manufacturer Information

The brand Saphris comes from Canada and is manufactured by Lundbeck. The generic Asenapine is also called Asenapt manufactured by Sun Pharma. This medication is available in the strength of 5mg and 10mg tablets.

Common saphris side effects may include:

• Dizziness, drowsiness, feeling restless;
• Insomnia (sleep problems);
• Numbness or tingling inside or around your mouth;
• Weight gain

Serious side effects include:

• Feeling like you might pass out, slow heart rate;
• High fever, sweating, confusion, uneven heartbeats, tremors;
• Seizure (convulsions);
• Sudden numbness or weakness;
• Sudden severe headache, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;
• Uncontrollable movements of your eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs;
• Unusual thoughts or behavior, hallucinations, thoughts about hurting yourself

You should not use Saphris if you are allergic to Asenapine. Saphris is not used for psychotic conditions related to dementia. Talk to your doctor to make sure Saphris is safe for you if you have any of these conditions such as liver disease, heart problems, diabetes, seizures or epilepsy and a history of heart attack, stroke , breast cancer, low white blood cell count, etc. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during the treatment with this medication. It is unknown whether Asenapine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby, you should not breast-feed while using this medicine.
