Fluanxol Information

Fluanxol Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Fluanxol from Canada manufactured by Lundbeck. The generic version is not available. Our customers may also purchase other Psychiatric Medications such as Abilify.

Dosage

Fluanxol is available in the strength of 0.5 mg and 3 mg tablets. It is also available in the strength of 20 mg/ ml and 100 mg/ml depot ampules.

Usage

Fluanxol (Flupentixol) is a prescription medication used to relieve symptoms of schizophrenia (a condition characterized by symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, reduced speaking, difficulty with concentration and memory, etc.) and other similar mental health problems that affect the way you think, feel or behave. The active ingredient in Fluanxol is Flupentixol. Flupentixol belongs to the group of drugs known as thioxanthene neuroleptics. It works by affecting nerve pathways in certain areas of the brain to help correct certain chemical imbalances that cause the symptoms of schizophrenia. Taking flupentixol tablets will help relieve some of your symptoms and will also help to prevent recurring episodes.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Fluanxol are restlessness, changes in weight, drowsiness or sleepiness, decreased interest in sexual intercourse, pain at the injection site, shaking, and trembling of arms and feet.

Stop using Fluanxol and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• A sudden increase in body temperature;
• Convulsions;
• Serious allergic reaction (symptoms of an allergic reaction may include swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat, which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing or hives);
• Unusual stiffness of the muscles and changes in consciousness, especially in conjunction with fast heart rate and sweating;

Warnings and Interactions

Do not use Fluanxol if you are allergic to it, to any other similar medicines (such as thioxanthenes or phenothiazines), or the ingredient fractionated coconut oil. Your dose usually depends on your condition and other factors, such as your weight and response to the medicine. It would be best to take the tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you forget to take a dose, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any worm-like movements of the tongue or other uncontrolled movements of the tongue, mouth, cheeks, or jaw which may progress to the arms and legs.

Do not miss any injections, even if you feel better. Fluanxol helps control your condition but does not cure it. Fluanxol may cause drowsiness, tiredness, sleepiness, or blurred vision in some people. Be careful driving or operating machinery until you know how Fluanxol affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while using Fluanxol as it may worsen drowsiness or sleepiness. Standing up slowly, especially when you get up from bed or chairs, will help your body get used to the change in position and blood pressure.

You should not use Fluanxol if you:
• Are allergic (hypersensitive) to flupentixol, other thioxanthene drugs or antipsychotic drugs, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• Feeling less alert than usual, or are tired or sleepy, or have serious problems with your blood circulation;
• Have severe depression, which needs you to stay in hospital or if you need electroconvulsive therapy (ECT);
• Suffering from periods of excitement, overactivity, or mania

Before you start using Fluanxol, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A heart condition (including an irregular heartbeat) or severe breathing problems (such as asthma or bronchitis);
• Enlarged prostate or suffer from a condition known as phaeochromocytoma;
• Kidney diseases;
• Liver problems;
• Parkinson's disease, or myasthenia gravis;
• Suffering from epilepsy, or have been told that you are at risk;
• Suffering from glaucoma;
• Thyroid problems

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby. Fluanxol should not be used during pregnancy unless necessary. If you are breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice. You should not use this medicine when breastfeeding, as small amounts of the drug can pass into breast milk. Fluanxol is not recommended for use in children.

There may be a drug interaction between Fluanxol and other drugs such as quinidine, amiodarone, sotalol, dofetilide, erythromycin, terfenadine, astemizole, gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin, cisapride, lithium, levodopa, phenobarbital, metoclopramide and other antipsychotic medicines (e.g., thioridazine).
