Myambutol (Ethambutol) is used to treat tuberculosis. This medication is usually given together with at least one other tuberculosis medication. Ethambutol medication is known as an antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of tuberculosis bacteria in the body. This medication will not work for viral infection such as the common cold and flu.

We currently offer the brand Myambutol from Canada also called Etibi by Bausch Health in the strength of 100 mg and 400 mg tablets. The generic version is not available.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Myambutol may include dizziness, headache, indigestion, itching or rash, joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach ache, and vomiting.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Chest pain, shortness of breath;
• Confusion or hallucinations;
• Easy bruising/bleeding;
• Fever or flu-like symptoms;
• Little or no urinating;
• Liver problems;
• Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet;
• Severe skin reaction;
• Trouble breathing, new or worsening of cough with fever

You should not take Myambutol if you are allergic to Ethambutol or if you have an eye condition called optic neuritis. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have ever had:

• Inflammatory eye disorders;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease

Some antacids may make it harder for your body to absorb this medication. Avoid taking an antacid containing aluminum hydroxide. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Myambutol and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication should not be given to a child younger than 13 years old.
