Product Details

Cytomel is a man-made thyroid hormone medication used to treat hypothyroidism (low thyroid). It can also be used to treat goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), or to administer medical tests for thyroid disorders.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Cytomel includes: hair loss (especially in childen). The serious side effects may include:

• Signs of allergic reaction
o Hives
o Difficulty breathing
o Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat

You should not take Cytomel if you have a thyroid disorder called thyrotoxicosis, or an adrenal gland problem that is not under control. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications. Talk to your doctor if you have had: heart disease, angina, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, diabetes, pituitary or adrenal gland problems. Cytomel is not expected to cause any problems to an unborn or nursing infant, but be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. There may be an interaction between Cytomel and other medications, including: antidepressants, birth control pills, blood thinners, digoxin, epinephrine, insulin, iodine, salicylates, and steroids. Talk to your doctor about the risks.
