Zymar (Generic name: Gatifloxacin) is an approved antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. Gatifloxacin belongs to the class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones. Gatifloxacin is available in sterile eye-drop formulation that works by killing the bacteria that causes the infection. Zymar provides rapid and effective protection from eye infections that cause bacterial conjunctivitis (commonly known as “pink eye”). Use Zymar ophthalmic solution exactly as prescribed.
The most common Zymar side effects are blurred vision, changes in taste, dizziness, eye irritations, headache, nausea, and watery eyes. If you experience any severe side effects including eye pain, sensitivity of light, signs of infections, vision changes, or symptoms of a serious allergic reactions (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT use Zymar drops if you are allergic to Gatifloxacin or any of the ingredients of Zymar medication. Do NOT wear contact lens whole you are using Zymar. Before using Zymar solution, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, such as any other allergies and eye disorders. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions or over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use, especially of: blood thinner, other antibiotics or eye medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Zymar is available in 0.3 %/5 ml dose and pack sizes of 1, 2, or 3.
