Product Details

Nesina is an anti-diabetic medication and is used to improve blood sugar levels in adult patients with type 2 diabetes in addition to diet and exercise. It can be used alone in patients who cannot use metformin, or in combination with metformin, sulfonylurea, pioglitazone, and insulin. This medication is used when your blood sugar cannot be controlled adequately by diet and exercise and one or more of the above-mentioned oral antidiabetic medications. Nesina works by increasing the level of natural substances in the body called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. Nesina is available as tablets in the dosage forms of 6.25 mg, 12.5 mg, 25 mg. Some less serious side effects of Nesina may include sore throat, blocked nose, tiredness, fever, rash, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, toothache, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, heartburn, back pain, muscle or bone pain, difficulty sleeping, swelling of extremities, high cholesterol, joint pain. Stop using Nesina and contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• Allergic reaction
• High blood pressure
• Inflammation of pancreas
• Low blood sugar

Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Nesina comes as tablets in the dosage form of 6.25 mg, 12.5 mg and 25 mg. The recommended dose is 25 mg per day. Never change the dose of Nesina unless your doctor tells you to. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Nesina can be taken with or without food. Do not use the medication if are allergic to alogliptin or any other ingredients in the medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding. You must consult also your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes), have kidney disease, suffer from heart failure, or inflammation of pancreas. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Nesina, including dextromethorphan, fexofenadine, and atorvastatin. When Nesina is used in combination with pioglitazone and metformin or in combination with insulin or sulfonylurea, it is advised to take precautions to avoid hypoglycemia while driving or using machinery.
