WHAT IS ADALAT XL?  

Adalat XL (Nifedipine) is a prescription medication that helps with the treatment of chest pain (angina) and high blood pressure (hypertension). It belongs to a drug class called calcium channel blockers, which work by blocking and slowing the calcium into the cells of the heart and arteries. This allows blood vessels to relax and prevent the heart and arteries from contracting strongly.

Before taking Adalat XL, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to the ingredients of this medication or have any other allergies. Inform your healthcare provider further if you have a family history or medical condition of:

ADALAT XL DOSAGE 

Follow your healthcare provider’s advice regarding the prescribed dose for your condition. Read the medication guide and prescription labels for the drug information and directions in taking this medication. Do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you need help with the instructions. 

This medication comes in five dosage forms and strengths: Adalat XL 20 mg, Adalat XL 30 mg, and 60 mg extended-release tablet. 

For the treatment of chest pain (angina), take Adalat XL 30 – 60 mg extended-release tablets orally, once daily. This dosage may be increased every 7 – 14 days. For the maintenance dose, take 20 – 30 mg extended-release tablets orally, once daily. The dosage must not exceed 180 mg per day (if taking capsules) or 120 mg per day (if taking extended-release tablets).  

For the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure, take Adalat XL 30 – 60 mg extended-release tablets orally, once daily. This dosage may be increased to 7 – 14 days, and must not exceed 90 mg per day. 

For the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, take Adalat XL 30mg extended-release tablets orally, every 12 hours. This dosage may be increased to 120 – 240 mg per day. 

For the treatment of raynaud phenomenon, take Adalat XL 30 – 120mg extended-release tablets orally, once daily.  

In case you missed a dose, take the medication tablet as soon as you remember. However, it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Don’t take a double dose of this medication to make up for the missed dosage.  

In case you are experiencing fainting or trouble breathing, which are possible symptoms of an overdose, call the local emergency hotline and seek medical attention immediately.
