Selzentry Information

Selzentry (maraviroc) is an antiviral medication which stops certain viral cells from multiplying in your body. Selzentry belongs to the chemokine receptor antagonist drug class, which works by blocking the HIV virus from infecting healthy immune cells (T-cells). Selzentry is used with other medications to treat CCR5-tropic HIV type 1, a virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Selzentry is not a cure for HIV or AIDS. Selzentry can be used for adults as well as children who weigh at least 4.4 pounds (2 kilograms).

Selzentry Side Effects

Common side effects of Selzentry include:
• Abnormal blood tests (in newborns);
• Bloating;
• Cold symptoms;
• Constipation;
• Cough;
• Diarrhea;
• Dizziness;
• Fever;
• Gas;
• Indigestion;
• Rash;
• Vomiting

Call your physician immediately if any of these adverse effects occur (even weeks or months after you stop your medication):
• Chest pressure, tight feeling in your neck or jaw, sweating, pain spreading to your arm or shoulder;
• Feeling light headed, like you might pass out;
• Trouble speaking or swallowing, problems with balance or eye movement, weakness or prickly feeling;
• Signs of a new infection - fever, night sweats, swollen glands, cold sores, cough, wheezing, diarrhea, weight loss;
• Swelling in your neck or throat (enlarged thyroid), menstrual changes, impotence

Selzentry Precautions

Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor of any other medications you take including prescription medication, over the counter drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements, to avoid any negative interactions between drugs. Inform your doctor if you take:
• Antifungal medications;
• Antibiotics;
• Blood pressure medications;
• Drugs that treat hepatitis;
• Drugs which treat tuberculosis;
• St John’s Wort

Inform your doctor of your medical history if you have:
• Heart disease;
• Kidney disease (if you are on dialysis);
• Liver disease (hepatitis B or C);
• Low blood pressure

This medication can harm an unborn child, tell your doctor if you are or become pregnant. This medication can pass into breastmilk and harm a nursing child, do not breastfeed while on this medication.
