Hytone (Hydrocortisone) is a prescription topical lotion used to treat different skin conditions, including insect bites and stings, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, allergies, rash, and itching of the genitals and anus. Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness associated with these conditions. The active ingredient in Hytone is Hydrocortisone. Hydrocortisone belongs to the class of medication called mild corticosteroids. Hydrocortisone reduces the accumulation of macrophages, antagonizes histamine release, and reduces fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, and subsequent scar tissue formation in the inflamed areas of the skin. As a result, Hytone lotion reduces swelling, redness, and itching when applied to the skin. Hytone may be used for other conditions not mentioned in this guide. However, it would be best to know that steroid cream or lotion should not be used for a long time.

• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;

Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. During pregnancy, Hytone lotion should be used when needed. You should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if topical Hydrocortisone passes into breast milk when applied to the skin. It would be best not to use the lotion on the chest or where a breastfeeding baby can contact the lotion. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Hytone is a topical lotion that should be applied on the skin only. Wash and dry your hands before using. Clean and dry the affected area. You should shake it well just before using it. Do not apply the lotion on your face unless directed to do so. Using it on your face without your doctor’s instruction may worsen your condition and result in changes in your skin colour. Avoid getting the medication in your eyes or mouth. If this occurs, rinse it off immediately with water and soap. Apply a small amount of Hytone lotion to the affected area once or twice daily or according to your prescription label. Do not cover the area with a bandage or thick clothing. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure to prevent sunburn. Do not use other skin products when treating skin conditions with Hydrocortisone. Consult your doctor if you notice changes in your skin colour or stretch marks that weren’t present before treatment. Talk to your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your condition after using Hytone lotion for two weeks. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Hydrocortisone and other medications. Do not apply the lotion on the skin of a baby. It may irritate the skin. Keep the lotion safe, secure, and far away from the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date.
