Tambocor tablets contain the active ingredients flecainide, which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-arrhythmics, which control the speed and rhythm of the heart. It inhibits stimulus conduction in the heart and extends the time during which the heart is at rest, causing the heart to pump normally again. Tambocor tablets are used to treat arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat such as Wolff-Parkinson White Syndrome); Tachycardia: serious cardiac arrhythmias, which are often expressed as serious palpitations of the heart (fast heart beat); fibrillation (rapid contraction of muscles in the heart). Tambocor is not recommended in children under 18. Treatment with flecainide will normally be started under medical supervision (if necessary, in the hospital). Follow your doctor’s advice closely when taking flecainide. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Take the tablets by swallowing them with sufficient fluid (e.g. water).

Common side effects Tambocor may include dizziness; visual disturbances, such as double vision, blurred vision and difficulty focusing; more frequent occurrence of pre-existing arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat); shortness of breath; weakness; fatigue; fever; fluid in the tissues (edema); blood pressure; rash; hair loss, light sensitivity; feeling sick; vomiting; tummy pain; loss of appetite; constipation; diarrhoea; indigestion; flatulence (wind). Call your doctor immediately if you notice more serious side effects such as:
• Any sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body);
• Muscle weakness and cramps, muscle pain, pins and needles, lack of co-ordination, joint pain, flushing, numbness, and increased sweating;
• Raised liver enzymes and changes in the numbers of blood cells;
• Yellow eyes and skin, itching, liver failure, light-headedness, headache
This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. Contact your doctor if any of these side effects worsen or persist.
Do not take Tambocor tablets if you are allergic to flecainide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine; using class 1 anti-arrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide); have had heart problems such as heart failure, heart attack, heart valve or conduction problems; have an electrolyte imbalance (altered blood salts); have cardiogenic shock; suffer from known Brugada syndrome. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Tambocor tablets if you have liver disease; you have a pacemaker; you have or have had heart failure; you have an enlarged heart; you have ever had a heart attack; you have or have had angina; you have heart disease; you have rapid and irregular heartbeat after surgery; you have severe hepatic disease; you have impaired renal function. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. You should tell your doctor if you are taking or have taken digoxin; drugs that affect the heart such as beta blockers or verapamil; other anti-arrhythmic drugs such as amiodarone; antidepressants and tricyclic antidepressants; drugs for epilepsy; clozapine; antihistamines such as terfenadine; quinine; ritonavir (used to treat HIV); diuretics (water tablets); cimetidine; bupropion; terbinafine (an antifungal drug). Do not take Tambocor while pregnant or breast-feeding unless your doctor tells you to. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Tambocor can cause blurred vision or dizziness in some people. Do not to drive, operate machinery or do anything that requires you to be alert until you know how Tambocor affects you.
