What is Incruse Ellipta?

Incruse Ellipta is a brand-name medication that can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription. Incruse Ellipta has been approved to relieve and prevent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) symptoms that include chronic bronchitis and emphysema in adults.

Incruse Ellipta is not recommended to relieve sudden breathing problems and replace your rescue inhaler. It should be used regularly (maintenance). The active substance and generic name are Umeclidinium Bromide, a class of drugs called long-acting muscarinic antagonist, also referred to as an anticholinergic. It works by blocking the muscarinic receptors that control muscle contraction. This results in relaxation of the muscles of the airways, leading to easier breathing and prevention of COPD symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing.

Incruse ellipta dosing

Incruse Ellipta comes in a powder for inhalation from inside an inhaler. Each inhalation (puff) provides a delivered dose of 62.5 mcg of umeclidinium.

The recommended dose is one inhalation or puff by mouth (orally) once a day. You should not use Incruse Eliipta more than one time within 24 hours.

No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with renal impairment, patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and geriatric patients.

Incruse Ellipta – How to use

You should use Incruse ellipta inhaler exactly as directed by your doctor. Read carefully the instructions written on the Patient information leaflet or label. If you have questions or you cannot understand the instructions written on the label, ask your doctor or licensed pharmacist.

This drug is ready to use right away.

1. Hold the inhaler upright and open it. Remember that when you open it, a dose is prepared/loaded. Be sure to open it only when you are ready to use it. You will lose a dose if you open and then close its cover without inhaling the medicine.

2. Remember to breathe out (exhale) gently and fully away from the inhaler, not into the mouthpiece. Put the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips around it, forming a good seal. Be careful not to block the vent of the mouthpiece with your fingers or lips.

3. Take a long, steady, and deep breath through the mouth and not in the nose.

4. Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for about 3-5 seconds, or as long as you can comfortably do so.

5. After removing it from your mouth, close the cover of the inhaler.

6. Rinse your mouth well with water after inhaling the medication to the risk of a mouth infection. Do not consume the water; instead, spit it out.
