Dosage

Motilium and the generic Domperidone are only available in tablets with a strength of 10 mg; please refer to the Mayo Clinic.

Usage

Motilium (Domperidone) is one of the most popular prescription medications for treating nausea, vomiting, bloating, and other stomach discomfort after eating (source). It also helps to relieve heartburn and trapped wind, vomiting, and nausea caused by migraines, stress, food poisoning, viruses, and drugs taken for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Domperidone belongs to the group of medications called dopamine antagonists. This medication works by helping the stomach to empty more quickly and to reduce nausea. It causes the muscles at the stomach entrance to tighten and the exit muscles to relax. These actions speed up the process of passing food through the stomach and into the intestines.

It is crucial to take the medication exactly as your doctor prescribes and refer to the patient's leaflet. Please consult with your doctor for personalized advice.

Side Effects and Precautions

Some common side effects of Motilium include dry mouth, headache, and migraine (source). Other side effects include cramps in the abdomen, diarrhea, regurgitation, and rash. Serious side effects include:

• Galactorrhea (excessive or spontaneous flow of breast milk)
• Gynecomastia (excessive development of the male mammary gland)
• Menstrual irregularities (spotting or delayed periods)
• Palpitations
• Dizziness
• Fainting
• Irregular heartbeat

For a more comprehensive list of side effects, please refer to Drugs.com. Please note that individual reactions may vary, and not everyone will experience all the adverse reactions. If you still have questions about side effects, we suggest further conversations with your doctor.
