Calan SR Information

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Calan SR also called Isoptin SR from Canada manufactured by BGP Pharma. The generic Verapamil comes from Canada by a different manufacturer. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784

Dosage

The brand Calan SR Tablet and the generic Verapamil SR are both available in the strength of 120 mg tablets only.

Usage

Calan SR (Verapamil SR) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and severe chest pain (angina). Verapamil is also used to control heart rates in a patient with a fast and irregular heartbeat (such as atrial fibrillation). The active ingredient in Calan SR is Verapamil. Verapamil belongs to a class of drugs known as Antidysrhythmic IV, calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Calan SR Side Effects

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Calan SR are headache, gingival hyperplasia, constipation, dizziness, low blood pressure, nausea, and sleep disturbance.

Stop using Calan SR and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Severe constipation;
• Severe dizziness or fainting attacks;
• Swelling of ankles;
• Unusual tiredness or unintended weight gain;
• Vomiting that doesn't stop;
• Worsening symptoms include shortness of breath and elevated blood pressure

Warnings and Interactions

Before you take the Verapamil tablet, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or have other allergies. You should take Calan SR tablets by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 3 or 4 times daily. For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take a week before you get the full benefit of this drug. Keep taking this medication even if you feel better. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. However, Calan SR may make you feel dizzy. To lower your risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, you should get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. It is essential to take this medication regularly as prescribed. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Your blood pressure may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, your blood pressure readings remain high or increase, or your chest pain occurs more often).

Before you start using Calan SR, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have the following:
• Certain types of heart rhythm problems (such as second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, sick sinus syndrome unless you have a pacemaker, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome);
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Muscle and nerve disorders (muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis)

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Verapamil should be used with caution during pregnancy as it passes across the placental and may harm the child. You should discuss the risk and benefits of using Calan SR with your doctor. Verapamil passes into the breastmilk in a substantial amount. Talk to your doctor before using Verapamil as a breastfeeding mother. There may be a drug interaction between Calan SR and other drugs such as aliskiren, clonidine, disopyramide, dofetilide, fingolimod, and lithium.
