Anusol Plus Information

Anusol Plus (Pramoxine Hydrochloride/Zinc Sulfate) is used to treat hemorrhoids. You have hemorrhoids when the veins in your anus and lower rectum are swollen. It may also be used for itching. If the hemorrhoids grow inside your rectum, they are internal. External hemorrhoids occur when they grow around the anus. Local anesthetics like Pramoxine Hydrochloride numb the skin to block the feelings of pain and itching. Astringents like Zinc Sulfate soothe and protect raw areas. The effects of this medication can be felt within a few minutes.

Anusol Plus Side Effects

The most common side effects of Anusol Plus may include dryness; irritation; itching; thin skin; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Ongoing irritation;
• Severe headache;
• Severe rectal pain;
• Signs of an infection

Anusol Plus Precautions

Do not use Anusol Plus if you are allergic to Pramoxine Hydrochloride, Zinc Sulfate or other ingredients in this medication. Do not use Anusol Plus if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. The drug should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Do not use Anusol Plus while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is not known if Pramoxine Hydrochloride passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm nursing infants. Zinc Sulfate passes into breast milk but is not expected to harm a nursing infant. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children under 18 years of age.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Empty your bowel and bladder before using the suppositories or ointment. You should avoid having a bowel movement within 1 hour of using the medication so that it can work well. Wash and dry the anal area. If you are using the ointment, use the applicator provided to administer the medicine. You can also apply the ointment to the surface of the anus. If you are using the suppository, remove the wrapper and insert it into your anus. Do not hold the suppository for too long to prevent it from melting. Do not drink alcohol when using this medicine. Alcohol can increase the side effects of the drug, especially stomach bleeding. Your doctor may also recommend lifestyle changes like drinking plenty of water and eating high-fiber foods to increase bowel movement. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
