Are you diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD? Did your doctor prescribe you an inhaler called Combivent Respimat? Are you worried about its hefty cost? Don’t panic. PricePro Pharmacy has got your back.

The inhaler Combivent Respimat is the brand name of a handheld, pocket-sized oral inhalation device containing a combination of two active drugs Ipratropium and Albuterol. Both of them, in this formulation, work together to relax the muscles of the bronchus and allow oxygen to pass more easily into the lungs. Combivent Respimat is most commonly indicated for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on a regular aerosol bronchodilator who continue to have evidence of bronchospasm (airway narrowing) and thus require a second bronchodilator.

Combivent Respimat (Ipratropium/Albuterol) Medication Information

Uses

Combivent Respimat is a prescription inhaler with a combination of two different drugs. It contains albuterol and ipratropium bromide. Your doctor may prescribe this inhaler to treat asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Asthma and COPD are called obstructive airway diseases. People with the conditions have a harder time breathing and may have other symptoms like coughing, wheezing, or chest pain.

Albuterol and ipratropium relax the smooth muscles of the lungs, making it easier to breathe. They work via two different mechanisms, so their combination is more effective than being used by themselves.

Dosage

Each Combivent Respimat inhalation contains:

  • Albuterol 100 mcg
  • Ipratropium 20 mcg

Each inhaler contains 120 inhalations.

Inhale Combivent Respimat four times per day as needed. Each inhaler should last no longer than 30 days.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Combivent Respimat include:

  • Bronchitis

Pharmacist Tips

  • If you haven’t used the inhaler in a few days or are using it for the first time, “prime” it by spraying one puff towards the ground.
  • Clean the mouthpiece, including inside, once weekly with a damp cloth.
  • Do not remove the clear base after inserting the inhaler cartridge.

Combivent Respimat FAQs

How do I know when my inhaler is out of inhalations?

There is a counter on the side that shows how many inhalations are left out of 120. When the pointer reaches the red area of the scale, there are seven days of medication left.

How do I activate the inhaler?

Hold the inhaler upright with the orange cap closed. With your other hand, twist the clear bottom of the inhaler in a clockwise direction (in the direction of the arrows) for half a turn. Open the orange cap, empty your lungs, and close your lips around the device.

How do I take a breath once the inhaler is ready?

Point the inhaler to the back of your throat. Start a slow breath, press the button, and continue to breathe in slowly for as long as you can. Hold your breathe for 10 seconds or as long as you can.
