Indications

Zyprexa Zydis is an antipsychotic medicine used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other psychotic conditions in those aged 13 years or older. This medication is also used with fluoxetine to treat depressive episodes in those aged at least 10 years with bipolar I disorder.

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic that inhibits dopamine and serotonin receptors to improve the availability of these chemicals in your brain. By altering and balancing your brain chemicals, Zyprexa Zydis helps treat symptoms related to various psychotic disorders including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

FAQ

Can you drink alcohol with Zyprexa Zydis?

You should speak with your healthcare provider to determine the safety of drinking alcohol during treatment with Zyprexa Zydis and in what amounts. Alcohol can cause you to become drowsier than if you used Zyprexa on its own and can increase adverse reactions. However, if this medication does not make you severely drowsy or dizzy, you may be able to have small amounts irregularly.

Why does Zyprexa make you hungry?

A common side effect of Zyprexa Zydis is an increase in appetite, which may be a result of the medicine altering the levels of dopamine and serotonin you have available in your brain. These chemicals affect your appetite and when altered could result in more cravings and an increase in hunger. Speak with your healthcare provider for more information if you have any questions or concerns during treatment.
