Minocin (Minocycline) is used for the treatment of certain infections caused by certain types of bacteria. Minocycline belongs to the class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. It is used to treat infections, urinary tract infections, gallbladder infections, and respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia and sinusitis. Minocin works by slowing the growth of certain bacteria and allowing the body’s immune system to kill them. Minocin works best if it is taken at the same time each day.

We currently have the brand Minocin from Canada manufactured by Stiefel and the generic comes from Canada as well but is manufactured by a different manufacturer. Minocin is available in the strength of 50mg and 100mg capsules.
The Minocin side effects may include:

• Photosensitivity;
• Reduced bone development in children;
• Tooth discoloration;
• Vomiting
You should not use Minocin if you are allergic to Minocycline or to other tetracyclines (eg. Doxycycline). Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication should be avoided in pregnant women because it crosses the placenta and may cause fetal harm. Minocin does pass into breast milk and there is potential for serious adverse effects involving the development of teeth and bones in nursing infants. There may be an interaction between Minocycline and other medications such as birth control pills, colestipol, digoxin, quinapril, warfarin, etc.
