Galvus (Generic name: Vildagliptin) is a new oral anti-diabetic medicine prescribed to help manage blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin belongs to a new class of diabetes medication, called DPP 4 Inhibitors (Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV inhibitors or “incretin enhancers”). DPP 4 Inhibitor improves the glycemic control to lower the glucose levels with type 2 diabetes. Galvus is generally well tolerated. The most common Galvus side effects are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, and tremor. Do NOT take Galvus if you are allergic to Vildagliptin or any of the ingredients in Galvus medication.
