Proventil HFA/Albuterol is used to treat or prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.Store at room temperature. Protect from moisture and heat. Do not store in your vehicle on hot days or throw the empty canister into an open flame.If this is the first time you are using the inhaler, shake the inhaler device and spray the inhaler 4 times into the air and away from your face to test the inhaler. Make sure you do this if you have not used it for 2 weeks or longer, or if the inhaler was dropped. Shake the inhaler canister before each spray. Take the cap off the mouthpiece of the inhaler and fully exhale. With your lips closed around the mouthpiece of the inhaler canister, slowly breathe in while pushing down on the top of the inhaler canister and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Slowly exhale. Wait at least 1 minute before inhaling the second time, if more than one inhalation was prescribed. Shake the inhaler again before inhalation. Put the cap back on the mouthpiece of the inhaler canister and keep it clean and dry. Clean the inhaler once a week. When cleaning the inhaler, place the mouthpiece under warm running water for 30 seconds and shake out the excess water. Let all the parts dry completely before putting it all back together. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to albuterol or if you are already using a short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilator such as metaproterenol or a epinephrine.Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure; if you have a heart rhythm disorder; if you have a seizure disorder (ie.epilepsy); if you have diabetes or overactive thyroid.Make sure this medication is on hand at all times.
