Xeloda Information
Xeloda (Capecitabine) is a cancer medication used for the treatment of breast, colon and colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Capecitabine belongs to the class of medication called fluoropyrimidines which also includes 5-fluorouracil and tegafur. It works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells and slowing them from spreading in the body.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medication. Some side effects of Xeloda may include contstipation, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, trouble sleeping and weakness. You may be able to lessen the side effects by eating several small meals, not eating before treatment or limiting activity. There may be temporary hair loss but normal hair growth should return after the treatment has ended. This medication may affect your ability to have children if you are a man or woman of child bearing age. Xeloda may lower your ability to fight infections or make any infection worse. Inform your doctor right away if you have any signs of an infection.
