Usage

Saflutan (Tafluprost) is a prescription for treating high ocular pressure due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases such as ocular hypertension. Glaucoma is an eye disease that causes damage to the optic nerve and results in reduced vision. Ocular hypertension is increased pressure in the eye due to poor fluid drainage in the eye that maintains normal pressure by its continuous flow. The active ingredient in Saflutan is Tafluprost. Tafluprost belongs to the class of medication called Antiglaucoma (Prostaglandin agonist). It increases fluid drainage (aqueous humor) from inside the eyes. This helps to lower the pressure within the eye. Lowering high pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Saflutan are watery eyes, redness of the eyes, headache, feeling of something in the eyes, itching, and irritation of the affected eyes.

Stop using Saflutan and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Exacerbation of asthma or difficulty with breathing;
• Increased sensitivity to light;
• Rapid vision changes (such as loss of vision);
• Worsening vision

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Tafluprost, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Saflutan is an eye drop that should be instilled into the eyes. Use one drop in the eye (or eyes) affected once a day. Gently squeeze the container and let one drop fall into the space between the lower eyelid and the eye. Close your eye for a moment and press the inner corner of the eye with your finger for about one minute. Your doctor may recommend you use the drops in the evening. Follow your doctor's prescription carefully and use as directed. Saflutan Eye Drops might cause blurred vision for some time after using them. So, avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear. Do not stop using Saflutan Eye Drops without consulting your doctor, as it might increase the pressure in the eye, leading to a permanent eye injury. Continue using Saflutan Eye Drops for as long as your doctor has prescribed it to treat your condition effectively. Consult the doctor if you have any concerns.

Before you start using Saflutan, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Breathing problems such as asthma or COPD;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Other eye problems such as macular edema, iritis, uveitis, or lens extraction;
• Recent viral infections of the eyes

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. There may be a drug interaction between Saflutan and other drugs, such as steroid-containing eye drops.
