Usage

Norlutate (Norethindrone Acetate) is a prescription medicine used to treat women with irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, and endometriosis. It is also used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance without organic pathologies, such as submucous fibroids or uterine cancer. The active ingredient in the Norlutate tablet is Norethindrone Acetate. Norethindrone Acetate belongs to the class of medicine called progestins. It works by stopping the normal growth of the uterus lining during the menstrual cycle and signaling hormone changes in the uterus to restore normal menstrual periods.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Norlutate are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia, breast discharge, breast tenderness, spotting, weight change, somnolence, and changes in menstrual flow.

Stop using Norlutate and contact your doctor right away if you have any severe side effects such as:
• Changes in mental state such as depression or low mood;
• Disturbance of your vision or hearing;
• Feeling of pain or tightness in your chest;
• Fibroid;
• Heart attack;
• Stroke;
• Unusual severe headaches;
• Yellowness of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice)

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Norlutate Tablet, discuss with your doctor if you are allergic to it or its ingredients. Your doctor may prescribe an alternative medicine for your treatment in case of allergies. For example, suppose you are treating stopped menstrual periods (amenorrhea) and abnormal bleeding from the uterus. This drug is usually taken once daily for 5-10 days during the second half of the planned menstrual cycle or as directed by your doctor. You should follow your prescription carefully.

You may experience withdrawal bleeding within 3-7 days after you stop taking the medication. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. You should use this medication for as long as your doctor prescribed it, even if you are better. You should check your blood sugar (glucose) regularly, especially if you have diabetes, to avoid a sudden rise in your blood sugar. This drug may make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you dizzier. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you safely do it. You should limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis). You should reach out to your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your condition.

Before you start using Norlutate, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Active or past history of confirmed venous thromboembolism (such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) or active thrombophlebitis;
• Active or history of arterial thromboembolic disease (e.g., stroke, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease);
• Breast cancer or breast lump;

• Missed abortion or recent pregnancy loss;
• Partial or complete loss of vision due to ophthalmic vascular disease;

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Norlutate can harm the unborn baby. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should not use it. This medicine may pass into breast milk. It would be best if you stopped using this medicine while breastfeeding and talk to your doctor.
