Product Details

Prestalia (Perindopril Arginine/Amlodipine Besvlate) is a combination medication of amlodipine and perindopril that is used to treat high blood pressure. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by widening the blood vessels to improve blood flow. Perindopril is an ACE inhibitor that also widens the blood vessels, as well as helps to prevent the body from retaining water.

Common side effects may include cough, headache, dizziness, and swelling in the hands and feet. The serious side effects may include:

• High potassium levels
• Jaundice
• Lightheadedness
• Little or no urination
• New or worsening chest pain
• Rapid weight gain
• Signs of allergic reaction
• Swelling in the hands and feet

You should not use Prestalia if you are allergic to Perindopril Arginine/Amlodipine Besvlate, or if you have angioedema, recently took a heart medication called sacubitril, or are allergic to other ACE inhibitors. If you have diabetes or kidney disease, you should not take Prestalia with any medication containing aliskiren. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Do not use this medication if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or if you are nursing. Prestalia can cause injury or even death to an unborn baby if taken in the second or third trimester.

Precautions

Follow your doctor’s advice and follow all medication guidelines for your medication. Use it exactly as prescribed. Take Prestalia with or without food and at the same time daily. Be sure to drink lots of water to avoid dehydration while on this medication. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

There may be an interaction between Prestalia and other medications, including diuretics, heart or blood pressure medications, and NSAIDs. This is not a complete list. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Prestalia. To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Heart attack
• Heart disease
• High levels of potassium
• If you are on a low-salt diet
• Kidney disease (or if you’re on dialysis)
• Liver disease

Questions and Answers

1. I have been feeling very sick with Prestalia. Should I continue taking it?
Answer: It’s important to continue taking your medication consistently, but if you’ve been vomiting, have diarrhea, or heavy sweating while on this medication, talk to your doctor. Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Being dehydrated on Prestalia can lead to dangerously low blood pressure, electrolyte disorders, or even kidney failure.

2. What happens if I missed my dose of Prestalia?
Answer:Take your missed dose as soon as you realize it was missed. However, if it’s been more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at the same time or close together.

3. What should I avoid while taking Prestalia?
Answer: Avoid alcohol while taking Prestalia. It can cause unwanted side effects, including blood pressure issues. Avoid driving or other hazardous activities until you know how it affects you. And do not use any salt substitutes or potassium supplements unless your doctor has prescribed them to you.
