Betapace Information

Betapace (Sotalol) is used to treat a serious (possible life threatening) type of fast heartbeat called sustained ventricular tachycardia. This medication is also used to treat certain fast or irregular heartbeats (artrial fibrillation/flutter) in patients with severe symptoms such as weakness and shortness of breath. Sotalol belongs to a class of medications known as beta blocker and anti-arrhythmic. It works by changing the way your body responds to some nerve impulses, in the heart. This medication will slow down you heart rate and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body. Sotalol helps to lessen the symptoms and works to slow the heart rate to become more normal and regular.

Betapace Side Effects

Taking Betapace may cause some common side effects such as tiredness, slow heartbeat, and dizziness . Less common side effects include headache, diarrhea, and decreased sexual ability. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Taking this medication may also cause some serious side effects such as new or worsening symptoms of heart failure (such as shortness of breath, swelling ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, unusual/sudden weight gain). Get medical help immediately if you experience any of the following severe signs of dizziness, fainting, sudden change in heartbeat (unusually faster/slower/more irregular), chest/jaw/left arm pain.

Do not take Betapace if you are allergic Sotalol.
