Januvia (Generic name: Sitagliptin Phosphate Metformin) is an oral diabetes medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin Phosphate belongs to a new class of diabetes medication, called DPP 4 Inhibitors (Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4). DPP 4 Inhibitor improves the glycemic control to lower the glucose levels with type 2 diabetes. It works more effectiveness that can be used either alone or in conjunction with other diabetes medications. Taking Januvia along with diet and exercise allows the body to produce proper amount of insulin to lower blood sugars without causing hypoglycaemia. Take Januvia exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Januvia Side Effects
Januvia is generally well tolerated. The most common Januvia side effects are diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, or upper respiratory infection. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as anxiety, depression, dizziness, joint pain, stomach pain, or serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Januvia Precautions
Do NOT use Januvia if you are allergic to Sitagliptin or if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. Do NOT take Januvia if you are allergic to Sitagliptin or any of the ingredients in Januvia medication. Before taking Januvia oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, low blood sugar, reduced kidney or liver function, type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions or over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Januvia drug, especially of: digoxin, other diabetes medications such as sulfonylureas (e.g., chlorpropamide, glipizide, glyburide, tolazamide).
