Dosage

Toloxin is available in the strength of 0.0625 mg tablet, 0.125 mg tablet, and 50 mcg/ml/115 ml oral solution.

Usage

Toloxin (Digoxin) is a prescription medication used to treat mild to moderate heart failure and abnormal cardiac rhythm (in a patient with chronic atrial fibrillation). The active ingredient in Toloxin is Digoxin. Digoxin belongs to the class of medications called Antidysrhythmic, V; Inotropic Agents. It affects certain minerals (sodium and potassium) inside heart cells. This mechanism reduces strain on the heart and helps it maintain a normal, steady, and strong heartbeat. Treating heart failure may help support your ability to walk and exercise and may improve the strength of your heart. It is also important to treat an irregular heartbeat to strengthen your exercise ability.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Toloxin are nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, and diarrhea

Stop using Toloxin and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Enlarged or breast pain in men;
• Mood changes;
• Unusually fast, slow, or irregular heartbeats;
• Visual changes such as blurred vision or eye pain;
• Weakness

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking digoxin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, similar drugs (such as digoxin), or if you have any other allergies. In addition, you should inform your doctor if you are taking any medication for your condition or currently using an antihypertensive. Toloxin comes as a tablet and oral solution. You should take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. If you are using the oral solution of Toloxin, carefully measure the dose using the dropper provided. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. Take this medication at least 2 hours before or after eating foods high in fiber (such as bran). If you are using other medication, such as antacids, you should use it at least 2 hours before taking your Toloxin tablets. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Before you start using Toloxin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Hypertensive or treating hypertension;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Thyroid problems (overactive or underactive thyroid)

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Digoxin passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Toloxin and other drugs such as squill, dronedarone, lapatinib, aspirin, atenolol, atropine, gentamycin, ibuprofen, and diuretics.
