What is Cambia?

Cambia is a brand-name medication that can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription. This medication contains the active ingredient diclofenac potassium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Therefore, diclofenac can be used to relieve pain from different kinds of conditions.

Cambia’s mechanism of action is not completely understood. Still, it may be related to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), blocking the synthesis of pro-inflammatory and pain-related prostaglandin mediators, resulting in decreased prostaglandins in peripheral tissues.

What is Cambia used for

Cambia (diclofenac potassium) powder for oral solution is used for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in people who are 18 years of age and older.

This medication is not used to prevent migraine attacks and treat cluster headaches.

Cambia dosage and direction

Cambia comes as a powder for oral solution, and an individual dose sachet has 50 mg of diclofenac potassium.

For acute treatment of migraine, administer 1 packet (50 mg) of Cambia orally once daily. Empty the contents of one Cambia packet into a cup containing 30-60 ml (1-2 ounces or 204 tbsps) of water. Mix it well and consume it immediately. Do not use any other kinds of liquid, only water.

Taking Cambia with food may reduce its effectiveness or delay pain relief action compared to taking it without meals. However, food may lower possible stomach and intestinal side effects. Do not eat a high-fat meal because Cambia may not work.

Take this drug exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor. Read the medication guide and instruction sheets carefully and follow the prescription label instructions.

To decrease the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects, take the lowest dose of this medication. Do not take longer than the recommended dose and duration.

Caution

Do not take Cambia (diclofenac) if you are allergic to its active and inactive ingredients or if you have a history of an asthma attack or serious allergic reactions after using aspirin or an NSAID

Cambia (diclofenac) can raise your risk of stroke or fatal heart attack, even without any risk factors. You should not use Cambia before and after heart bypass surgery, specifically coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

This medication can also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, ulcers, and tears of the esophagus, stomach, and intestines without warning symptoms anytime during use that may cause death.

Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you have heart disease, increased blood pressure, stomach ulcers or bleeding, asthma, kidney or liver problems, a headache that is different from your usual migraine, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, chest pain, or are a smoker.

Before taking this medication, it is important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, and think you might be or plan to be pregnant. Taking an NSAID such as Cambia can cause kidney or serious heart problems in your unborn baby and possible complications during pregnancy and delivery.

Avoid taking a new medicine without consulting your doctor first.
