Asacol Information
Asacol (Generic name: 5 Aminosalicylic Acid, 5 ASA) is a prescribed medication used to treat mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC) and the maintenance of remission of UC. Asacol is also called Mesalamine that belongs to the group of medications know as anti-inflammatory. Asacol is proven effective in mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. 5-Aminosalicylic Acid acts by reducing inflammation in the bowel. Take Asacol exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Asacol side effects are cramping, diarrhea, headache, nausea or vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as bloody diarrhea, chills, fast heartbeat, fever, shortness of breath, signs of heart attack, skin rash and itching, please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT take Asacol oral if you are allergic to 5-aminosalicylic acid or other salicylates (such as aspirin).
