Usage

Amerge (Naratriptan) is a prescription medication that is used to treat migraine headaches and other symptoms of migraine such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Naratriptan belongs to the group of drugs called triptans. This medication works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain, it also reduces substances in the body that causes headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound. Treating your migraine promptly will allow you to get back to your normal life and may decrease your need to take other pain medications. Amerge does not prevent future migraines and it does not reduce the frequency of your migraine headaches.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Amerge may include dizziness, drowsiness, feeling weak or tired, flushing, nausea, numbness or tingling, and pain or tightness in your jaw, neck, or throat. Stop using Amerge and call your doctor right away if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Burning pain in your feet, hip pain, pain or heavy feeling in your legs;
• Extremely high blood pressure;
• Fast or pounding heartbeats;
• High levels of serotonin in the body;
• Numbness or tingling felling in your fingers or toes;
• Signs of a stroke;
• Symptoms of a heart attack

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Amerge if you are allergic to Naratriptan or if you have:

Taking Amerge while you are using certain medications can cause serotonin syndrome a condition where serotonin accumulates in the body, leading to a high serotonin levels which can be fatal. Tell your doctor if you use an antidepressant, , medicines for psychiatric disorder, narcotics, or medicines to prevent nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not give this medication to anyone under the age of 18 years old.
