Usage

Elmiron (Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of pain and discomfort caused by a bladder inflammation (cystitis). The exact mechanism is unknown, though, it is believed that Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium works by forming a layer on the bladder wall and protecting it from the irritating substances in the urine, thus, reducing and preventing pain and discomfort caused by cystitis. Elmiron also makes it easier for you to bleed.

Side Effects

Signs of Elmiron allergy: difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Elmiron include: hair loss, nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, easy bruising, headache, and dizziness. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of the following serious side effects:
• An allergic reaction (skin rash, itching, swelling, difficult breathing) – seek emergency medical care immediately;
• Nosebleeds or gum bleeds that won’t stop;

Warnings and Interactions

Also tell them about any vitamins and supplements you take.
