Vaseretic (Enalapril/HCTZ) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure is present with symptoms including anxiety, moderate to severe headaches, shortness of breath, and nosebleeds. Age, race, family history, lack of exercise, and too much salt are risk factors for high blood pressure. Vaseretic lowers high blood pressure to prevent heart attacks, stroke, and kidney problems. The active ingredient in Vaseretic is Enalapril and HCTZ. Enalapril belongs to a class of drugs called ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow through the body easily. HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics. It works by removing extra salt and water from the body, resulting in increased urine. HCTZ also relaxes blood vessels for improved blood flow.

We currently offer the brand Vaseretic from Canada manufactured by Merck in the strength of 10mg/25mg tablets. The generic Enalapril/HCTZ comes from Canada by a different manufacturer in the strength of 5mg/12.5mg and 10mg/25mg tablets.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Vaseretic. The most common side effects of Vaseretic may include the following:
• Cough;
• Dizziness;
• Dry cough;
• Headache;
• Light-headedness;
• Nausea;
• Tiredness
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Blurred vision;
• Chills;
• Electrolyte imbalance;
• Fever;
• Joint pain;
• Kidney problems;
• Skin rash;
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
These are not all of the side effects of Enalapril/HCTZ. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not take Vaseretic if you are allergic to Enalapril or HCTZ, or any ingredient in Vaseretic. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are allergic to medication including ACE inhibitors, penicillin, sulfa drugs;
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are on a low-salt diet;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Are taking medicines containing neprilysin inhibitor;
• Have asthma;
• Have diabetes;
• Have difficulty urinating;
• Have glaucoma;
• Have gout;
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Vaseretic and other medicines, including other diuretics, cancer medicines, lithium, digoxin, insulin, muscle relaxants, cyclosporine, and NSAIDs. It is not known if Vaseretic is safe and effective for use in children. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. You should not become pregnant while using Enalapril/HCTZ. The drug can cause injury or death to an unborn baby if you take it during your second or third trimester. Vaseretic passes into breast milk and can harm a nursing infant. Do not use this drug when breastfeeding. This medicine may impair your ability to drive or use machines. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Vaseretic to prevent dizziness. Follow your doctor's instructions on the type and amount of liquids you should drink. Get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position to lower your risk of dizziness and light-headedness. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes when taking this drug unless your doctor recommends it. Use Vaseretic precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split or chew the tablet. You can use the drug with or without food. Keep Vaseretic away from the reach and sight of children. Store between 15-300C. Protect the drug from moisture.
