Lamisil 1% (Generic name: Terbinafine Hydrochloride) is a topical antifungal medication used to treat certain types of infections caused by fungus in skin and nails (e.g., fingernail or toenail). Lamisil 1% contains an active ingredient Terbinafine HCl which is antifungal drug. It has been approved for the treatment of interdigital-type pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), and tinea (pityriasis) versicolor. Lamisil 1% is manufactured by Novartis and available over the counter (OTC) in forms of cream, gel, and spray.Lamisil tablets are also available as prescription oral.
The most common Lamisil 1% side effects are diarrhea, headache, heartburn, nausea, runny or stuffy nose, stomach pain, tiredness, unusual taste in your mouth, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chills, easy bleeding or bruising, fever, jaundice, joint pain, sore throat, vision changes, weight changes, or a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT use Lamisil topical if you are allergic to Terbinafine HCl or any of the ingredients in Lamisil 1% medication. Lamisil 1% is for external use only. Before using Lamisil 1% topical, tell your doctor, if you have had an immune disorder such as lupus or psoriasis, liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor you are taking all the prescription and over the counter (non prescription) medications, especially: antidepressant (SSRI, tricyclic), beta-blockers, cimetidine, heart rhythm medications, MAO inhibitors, rifampin, warfarin, and other antifungal drugs.
