Toprol XL (Generic name: Metoprolol Succinate) is a prescription medication used alone or in combination with other medications for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). Toprol XL is also used to treat chest pain (angina pectoris) related to coronary artery disease. Other uses for Toprol XL include the prevention of migraine headaches and the treatment of certain types of tremor conditions as determined by your doctor. Metoprolol XL is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Take Toprol XL capsules exactly as directed by your doctor.
Toprol XL Side Effects
The most common Toprol XL side effects include decreased sex drive, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, lightheadedness, tiredness, trouble sleeping and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as easy bruising or bleeding, dark urine, fainting, fatigue, fever, mental/mood disorder, numbness, persistent dizziness, and serious allergic reaction (difficult breathing; hives; itching; rash; swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.

Do NOT take Toprol XL if you are allergic to Metoprolol Succinate or any of the ingredients in Toprol XL medication. Before taking Toprol XL oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as blood circulation problem, breathing problem, certain types of tumor (pheochromocytoma), chest pain, depression, diabetes, heart failure, liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, lung disease, muscle disease, overactive thyroid disease, skin condition, or recently had a surgery. They may interact with Toprol XL drug, especially of: alpha-blockers, antidepressants, anti-diabetic, calcium channel blockers, cough-and-cold products, diet aids, digoxin, epinephrine, heart drugs, high blood pressure drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, medicines for overactive thyroid disease and etc.
