Betoptic Information
Betoptic (Betaxolol) belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. Beta blockers work by decreasing the amount of fluid that is made within the eye. This medication is used alone or with other medications to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma or other eye diseases such as ocular hypertension. Treating high pressure inside the eye helps prevent blindness. These eye drops are to be taken twice daily, by placing one drop into each one of your eyes. After using the eye drop, look downwards and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Try not to blink and don’t rub your eye, this will prevent the medication from draining out.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to this medication, or any other types of beta blockers such as
Timolol and
Levobunolol. This medication may have ingredients that can cause allergic reactions. Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of heart rhythm problems, serious heart conditions diabetes or low blood sugar levels. Side effects that can occur from this medication are blurred vision, eye redness, headache, trouble sleeping and dizziness.
