Fetzima Information

Fetzima (Levomilnacipran Hydrochloride) is used to relieve your symptoms of depression which may include feeling sad, loss of interest in usual activities, significant change in weight or appetite, change in sleeping habits, difficulty concentrating, feeling tired or suicidal thoughts. Fetzima belongs to a class of medicines called serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI). It is thought to work by affecting two naturally occurring brain chemicals, serotonin and norepinephrine. It is important that you and your doctor have good communication about how you are feeling for your treatment with these types of medications to be most safe and effective.

Fetzima Side Effects

The most common side effects of Fetzima may include nausea; rapid or irregular heartbeat; erectile dysfunction; sweating; dry mouth; abdominal pain; sore throat or runny nose; hot flashes; dry eyes; insomnia; constipation and vomiting. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Abnormally fast heartbeat;
• Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain;
• Easy bruising, unusual bleeding, purple or red spots under your skin;
• Hives;
• Increased blood pressure;
• Low sodium level - headache, confusion, slurred speech, severe weakness, vomiting, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady; • Mania/Hypomania: elevated or irritated mood, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts;
• Rash alone;
• Urinary hesitation or inability to urinate.

Fetzima Precautions

Do not use Fetzima if you are allergic to levomilnacipran or to any other ingredients in this medication or if you take a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) including the antibiotic linezolid and methylene blue; or if you have heart problems. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history including if you are taking any other medicines; are pregnant or breast feeding; have had a recent bone fracture or have osteoporosis or risk factors for osteoporosis; have heart problems, seizures or kidney problems; have a history of drug abuse; have diabetes and are taking insulin or other medicines to lower your blood sugar; have a history of urinary disorders; have a bleeding disorder or have low platelets; have a history of low sodium levels; have glaucoma; have a family history of mania or bipolar disorder; have a history of sexual problems; if you drink alcohol. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Fetzima and other medications. Do not stop taking Fetzima without first talking to your healthcare professional. Stopping Fetzima suddenly may cause symptoms, including anxiety, irritability, high or low mood, headache, nausea, dizziness, tremor, confusion. If your depression worsens or you experience changes in your behaviour or have thoughts of harming or killing yourself or others, continue taking Fetzima and tell your healthcare professional right away. Before doing any tasks that require special attention, wait until you know how you respond to Fetzima as your reactions could be impaired. Avoid drinking alcohol. It may raise your blood levels of levomilnacipran.
