Elavil Information
Elavil (Generic name: Amitriptyline Hydrochloride) is an antidepressant used to treat mental/mood problems such as major depression. It may help improve mood and feelings of well-being, relieve anxiety and tension, help you sleep better, and increase your energy level. Amitriptyline Hydrochloride belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by affecting the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Amitriptyline Elavil may also be used treat chronic pain and other conditions as determined by your doctor. Take Elavil exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Elavil Side Effects
The most common Elavil side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, sweating, vomiting, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, fainting, irregular heartbeat, mood or mental changes, nervousness, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Elavil Precautions
Do NOT take Elavil oral if you are allergic to Amitriptyline HCl or any of the ingredients in Elavil medication. Before taking Elavil, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as bipolar disorder, diabetes, glaucoma, heart problems, liver or kidney disease, overactive thyroid, schizophrenia or other mental illness, seizures or epilepsy, urination problems, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Elavil drug, especially of: heart rhythm medications and other antidepressants.
