Caduet Information:

Caduet (Generic name: amlodipine besylate/atorvastatin calcium) is the first dual medication designed to treat two angina (chest pain) and high blood pressure (hypertension). Caduet combines Norvasc (amlodipine besylate) for the treatment of high blood pressure and Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) for the treatment of high cholesterol, two leading risk factors for heart disease. Caduet is available in multiple dosing combinations. Your doctor should start you on a low-fat diet before giving you Caduet. Stay on this low-fat diet while you are on the medication. Take Caduet once a day at the same time each day, according to your doctor’s instructions.

Caduet Side Effects:

Caduet was well tolerated by patients in clinical trials. The most common side effects reported were characterized as mild to moderate, and were fluid retention, headache, dizziness, nausea, flushing, fast or irregular heartbeat, fatigue, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Call your doctor right away if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness or pain (especially with fever or tiredness); brown or dark-coloured urine; persistent or worsening chest pain; nausea and vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes; an allergic skin reaction or an allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that causes difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Caduet Precautions:

Caduet should not be taken by patients with any allergies, congestive heart failture, liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, seizures, or by women who are pregnant or nursing. Some medications can cause serious side effects if taken with Caduet. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and nonprescription medicines you are taking, including herbal supplements and birth control.
