Azor is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).  It contains a combination of amlodipine and olmesartan.  Amlodipine is a calcium channel blockers that work by relaxing the muscles of the heart and blood vessels.  Olmesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.

Store Azor at room temperature.  Keep Azor away from moisture and heat. Do not expose pets or children to Azor.

Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while using Azor unless your doctor tells you to.  tell your doctor if you have any conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, congestive heart failure, if you are vomiting or having diarrhea, or if you have recently had a heart attack.  Do not use Azor without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. It is unknown if Azor passes into breast milk and can harm a nursing baby. Before taking Azor, tell your doctor about any prescription and non prescription drugs that you use – especially if you are using a heart medication, potassium supplements, diuretics, or other medications that lower blood pressure.

If you are taking a beta-blocker drug like Blocadren, Corgard, Inderal, Normodyne, Tenormin, Toprol, Trandate, or Zibeta, do not suddenly stop using the medication without first talking to your doctor.  You may need to use less and less before you stop taking the medication entirely.  Stopping a beta-blocker too fast can cause serious heart problems.  avoid getting up suddenly from a sitting or lying position when taking Azor.  Get up slowly and steady yourself.  You may feel dizzy.

Take this medicine exactly as it was prescribed to you by a doctor.  Do not take Azor in larger amounts than recommended by your doctor.  Occasionally, your doctor may change your dose to make sure you get the most benefit from Azor.  Take Azor with a full glass of water.  Azor can be taken with or without food.  Have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis to make sure Azor is working for you.  Your kidney function may also need to be tested while using Azor.  Keep using this medication even if you feel fine – often hypertension has no symptoms.  If you need to undergo any type of surgery, inform your doctor ahead of time that you are using Azor. If you miss a dose of Azor, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.  If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing regime.  Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Do not use Azor if you are allergic to amlodipine (Norvasc) or olmesartan (Benicar).  Do not use Azor without telling your doctor if you are pregnant.  Azor could be fatal to an unborn baby.  Stop using Azor and tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Seek emergency attention if you have any of these signs of allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.  In rare cases, Azor can cause a condition that results in the deterioration of skeletal muscle tissue which leads to kidney failure.  Call your doctor right away if you hae muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you also have a fever, nausea, vomiting, and dark colored urine.

Call your doctor if you have any serious Azor side effects such as: feeling like you might pass out, swelling of the hands or feet, rapid weight gain, fast or pounding heartbeat, urinating less than usual or not at all, jaundice, or chest pain, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling.

Less serious Azor side effects include: dizziness, drowsiness,  warmth, redness, or tingly feeling under the skin, hair loss, mild skin rash or itching.
