Aventyl is prescribed for the treatment of symptoms of depression. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose for adults is 25 mg three or four times daily. Dosage should begin at a low level and increased as required. Doses above 100 mg/day are not recommended. For elderly and adolescent patients, the usual dose is 30 to 50 mg/day, in divided doses.

Aventyl is manufactured by AA Pharma and comes from Canada. The active ingredient in Aventyl is Nortriptyline. The generic form of Aventyl is not available. Aventyl is available as capsules in the strengths of 10 mg and 25 mg.

Stop taking Aventyl and call your doctor at once if you have one of these serious side effects:

• Allergic reaction
• Chest pain, fast heartbeat
• Confusion
• Hallucinations
• Low blood pressure
• Seizures
• Serotonin syndrome
• Suicidal thoughts

Less serious side effects include dry mouth, sleepiness, constipation, tiredness, dizziness, weight gain or loss, sweating and flushing. Please call your doctor if you have any further concerns or questions.

Aventyl may impair the physical or mental abilities required to do tasks such as driving or operating machinery. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Avently as excessive consumption of alcohol with Aventyl can lead to increased suicidal attempts or overdosage. Do not take Aventyl if you are allergic to Nortriptyline, have taken or are taking a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI), are taking dibenzazepines and have suffered from heart attack. Aventyl may interact with other antidepressants, phenothiazines, carbamazepine, antiarrhythmics like flecainide, and quinidine.
