Indocin (Indomethacin) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This medication is used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis and tendonitis. Indomethacin works by blocking the body’s production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation which helps to decrease swelling and pain. NSAIDs are used to treat the symptoms of pain and inflammation; they do not treat the disease that causes those symptoms.
