Norlutate (Norethindrone Acetate) is used to treat women with abnormal bleeding from the uterus, to treat women who have stopped having menstrual periods for several months, and it is also used to treat a certain condition that causes painful/irregular periods. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as progestins. It works by stopping the normal growth of the uterus lining during the menstrual cycle and signaling hormone changes in the uterus to restore normal menstrual periods.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Norlutate may include nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, mood swings, trouble sleeping, weight gain/loss, acne, breast swelling, changes in sexual interest, unwanted hair growth, hair loss.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Changes in vaginal bleeding or discharge;
• Dark patches on the skin or face;
• Depression;
• Frequent, burning or painful urination;
• Yellowing eyes or skin
