Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is used with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. This medication helps decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications and improves your quality of life. Fosamprenavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors. It works by interfering with the enzyme called protease, which is used by HIV-infected cells to make new viruses. This can stop HIV from reproducing itself.

Women with HIV or AIDS should not breast-feed a baby; the virus may be passed to the baby through breast milk. Lexiva should not be given to an infant younger than four weeks old.
