Antivert Information

Antivert (Meclizine) is used to treat or prevent the symptoms of motion sickness. Symptoms of motion sickness include dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Motion sickness happens when the movement you see differs from what your inner ear senses. You can get motion sickness in a car, train, boat, airplane, or amusement park ride. Antivert is also used to treat the symptoms of vertigo caused by a disease that affects your inner ear. Vertigo is the sensation that you or the environment around you is moving or spinning. Vertigo may be barely noticeable, and it may also be severe in some cases that you find it challenging to keep your balance and do everyday tasks. Antihistamines like Antivert reduce the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body.

Antivert Side Effects

The most common side effects of Antivert may include drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; feeling tired; vomiting; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Mood changes, e.g., restlessness, confusion;
• Seizures;
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction, e.g., abdominal cramps, swelling of the face and throat, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting;

Antivert Precautions

Do not use Antivert if you are allergic to Meclizine or any other ingredients in this medication. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have liver disease; kidney disease; asthma; glaucoma; enlarged prostate; urination problems; are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Antivert and other medications like opioid medications; sleeping pills; muscle relaxants; medicine for treating anxiety or seizures. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Antivert may be used to control nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Meclizine may pass into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed when using this medicine. Do not give this drug to a child younger than 12 years old. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop or change the dose of this medicine without talking to your doctor. Take this medicine one hour before you travel or anticipate having motion sickness. You may take Antivert once every 24 hours while traveling to prevent motion sickness. You may need to take this medicine several times daily to prevent vertigo. Antivert may cause drowsiness. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how Meclizine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol may increase the side effects of Antivert. Store at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light.
