Kytril (Granisetron) is a prescription medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting in people receiving cancer treatment, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can cause an increase in the level of serotonin in the body of the patient. The active ingredient in Kytril is Granisetron. Granisetron belongs to the class of medication called antiemetics, Selective 5-HT3 Antagonist. It works by blocking by preventing the body from releasing serotonin which is responsible for vomiting.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking Kytril. The most common side effects of Kytril may include:

• Headache;

You should follow your prescription carefully and not use more than your prescribed dose. When taken to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, granisetron is usually taken 1 hour before starting chemotherapy. Depending on the strength, a second dose may be taken 12 hours after the first dose. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take granisetron exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between granisetron and other medications, including apomorphine, dronedarone, and thioridazine. Children should not use the Kytril tablet or its injection.
