Ponstel Information

Ponstel Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Ponstel (Ponstan) from the United Kingdom. We also supply the generic Mefenamic Acid Capsule from Canada. Our customers may purchase other Anti-inflammatory medications such as Arthrotec and Celebrex. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784

Dosage

The brand Ponstel and its generic Mefenamic Acid are available in the strength of 250 mg tablets only.

Usage

Ponstel (Mefenamic Acid) is a prescription medication for short-term relief of mild to moderate pain from various conditions such as headaches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, and muscle aches in adults and children at least 14 years old. It is also used to decrease pain and blood loss from menstrual periods. The active ingredient in Ponstel is Mefenamic acid. Mefenamic acid belongs to the class of medication called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation, thereby reducing swelling, pain, or fever.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Ponstel are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision. Stop using Ponstel and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Passage of dark colour stool;
• Severe abdominal pain;
• Steatorrhea;
• Symptoms suggestive of renal failure such as difficulty in passing urine, flank pain, or passage of blood in the urine;
• Vomit that looks like coffee ground;
• Weakness in one part or side of the body or slurred speech

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Mefenamic acid, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, aspirin, other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib), or any other allergies. Ponstel is a capsule and should be taken according to your prescription label. Taking a tablet three times daily with or without food is often recommended. Do not increase your dosage without your doctor's approval. Your dosage depends on the nature and severity of your condition. Avoid taking alcoholic beverages when treating pain with the Ponstel capsule. Mefenamic acid should not be used for longer than 7 days. Discuss with your doctor if your condition worsens or you develop serious side effects.

Before you start using Ponstel, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• High cholesterol;
• Heart diseases such as recent heart attack, stroke, or treating hypertension;
• Intestinal disorders such as intestinal ulcers, obstruction, or perforation;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Mefenamic acid may harm the unborn baby. It is advisable not to take Ponstel (Mefenamic acid) in the third trimester of pregnancy unless you are told to do so by your doctor. Mefenamic acid is excreted in human breast milk if taken by nursing mothers, which may pose a danger to the baby. Do not use Mefenamic acid while breastfeeding; speak to your doctor for alternative medicine. There may be a drug interaction between Ponstel and other drugs such as lisinopril, ketoconazole, lithium, methotrexate, corticosteroids, and aliskiren. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
