What is Aggrenox used for?

This medication is used to lower the risk of stroke in people who have had mini-strokes such as transient ischemic attacks or a prior stroke because of a blood clot and have a high risk of having another heart attack.

This medication contains two other drugs such as a very low dose of aspirin, 25 milligrams per tablet, and dipyridamole in a slow-release form.

How to take Aggrenox

As your doctor tells you, Aggrenox is taken orally with or without food. Typically, two times per day in the morning and evening. The capsules must not be chewed or crushed and should only be swallowed whole. If you do this, the medication will release all at once, increasing your risk of possible side effects.

The Aggrenox dose will be heavily based on the patient’s medical condition or response to treatment. This medication should be taken regularly to help it be as effective as possible. Your doctor may instruct you to find the proper dosage for your condition. This medication should be taken at the same time every day to help you remember.
